How to Test Game on XCode

I have built my game as an iOS version, and put it into XCode. However, whenever I clean it and then press play, it won't work! It 2 things:

1. Version is not right - Do I just go to the XCode Project Settings thing and change the version?
2. You need to have Code Signing Identities - Do I have to buy a $100 Apple Developer Account to do this?

I am XCode 7 as we speak, because I saw someone say that XCode 7 allows you to test your games for free (hopefully without Code Signing Identities),...
